Chasing a sub-4 marathon or a 25-minute 5K? Enter the race distance and the finish time you are aiming for, and this calculator returns the exact pace per kilometre and per mile you must hold, plus your average speed. Use it to set treadmill speeds, program splits on your watch, and sanity-check whether a goal time is realistic for your current fitness.
Required pace is your target finish time divided by the race distance. Hold this pace per kilometre (or per mile) and you finish exactly on time. Common goals: a sub-4-hour marathon needs about 5:41/km, a sub-2-hour half about 5:41/km, a sub-25-minute 5K needs 5:00/km. Build in a small buffer for hills, aid stations and fade — even pacing or a slight negative split is usually fastest.
