What is a pregnancy weight gain calculator?
It shows your recommended total and weekly weight-gain range during pregnancy based on your pre-pregnancy BMI, following the Institute of Medicine (IOM) guidelines. It helps you check whether your gain is on track for a healthy pregnancy.
How is healthy pregnancy weight gain determined?
Recommendations depend on your pre-pregnancy BMI category. Enter your starting weight and height, and the calculator applies the IOM ranges to give your total target plus the weekly pace expected in the second and third trimesters.
How much weight should I gain during pregnancy?
Under IOM guidelines, a woman who started at a normal BMI is advised to gain about 11.5 to 16 kg (25 to 35 lb) total. Underweight women are advised to gain more and overweight or obese women less, so your range is individualized.
